Women Founders Learn How to Build a Global Brand with R. Paul Singh
The TiE Women Program – TiE Silicon Valley continued its masterclass series with an insightful and highly interactive session, “Building a Global Brand on a Startup Budget,” led by R. Paul Singh, CEO of EverestLabs.AI, serial entrepreneur, educator, and longtime TiE Silicon Valley Charter Member.
Drawing from decades of experience building, scaling, and exiting technology companies, Paul challenged founders to think beyond logos and marketing campaigns. Instead, he demonstrated that a strong brand begins with a deep understanding of customers, a compelling story, and a repeatable process for reaching the market.
Branding Starts with Knowing Your Customer
One of the session’s central themes was that founders must first understand who their ideal customer is before they can build a memorable brand or an effective go-to-market strategy.
Paul walked participants through identifying their Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), understanding customer pain points, mapping the sales process, and developing messaging that speaks directly to customer needs. He emphasized that every startup’s sales journey is different, and founders must first master selling their own product before building a larger sales organization.
A Hands-On Learning Experience
The session was intentionally designed to be practical and interactive.
Founders had the opportunity to introduce their startups live, receiving real-time coaching from Paul and valuable feedback from fellow participants. Together, they refined their company narratives, clarified their value propositions, and strengthened their customer messaging.
Rather than simply explaining concepts, Paul worked directly with founders to help them transform technical explanations into stories that create emotional connections with customers and investors.
Great Brands Tell Great Stories
Throughout the masterclass, Paul reinforced that people remember stories—not product features.
He encouraged founders to begin their pitches with a relatable problem, connect through authentic personal experiences when appropriate, and clearly explain why their solution matters. A compelling story builds trust, demonstrates empathy, and helps both customers and investors understand the founder’s vision beyond the technology itself.
The discussion quickly became one of the session’s highlights, with founders sharing why storytelling creates stronger emotional connections, builds credibility, and makes startups more memorable in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Practical Frameworks for Early-Stage Growth
Paul also shared actionable advice on acquiring early customers and building a repeatable sales process.
Founders learned why the CEO should lead sales in the earliest stages, how to validate customer demand before scaling, how to identify buying signals, and why high-quality content and consistent customer outreach remain essential regardless of whether a startup serves B2B or B2C markets. He also discussed strategies for creating urgency during sales conversations and developing messaging that resonates with the right audience.
Using companies such as Slack, Stripe, and Airbnb as examples, Paul demonstrated how successful startups differentiate themselves by focusing on the outcomes they create—not simply the products they sell. Strong brands, he explained, solve meaningful customer problems and communicate that value in a way that is simple, memorable, and authentic.
Empowering Women Founders to Build Brands That Last
The session generated thoughtful questions and active participation throughout, creating an engaging environment where founders learned not only from Paul’s experience but also from one another.
As the TiE Women Program continues, participants are gaining practical tools they can immediately apply to strengthen their startups, from refining their messaging and understanding their customers to building brands capable of competing on a global stage.
A heartfelt thank you to R. Paul Singh for sharing his expertise, practical frameworks, and unwavering commitment to supporting the next generation of women entrepreneurs.
