Fireside Reflections: Ashley Crafton on Resilience, Tenacity, and the Power of Community

On August 28, 2025, TiE Silicon Valley hosted a Special Edition Charter Member Lounge Fireside Chat featuring Ashley Crafton, CEO of Galena Innovations, TiE50 Winner, Meet the Drapers alum, and TiE Women’s 2024 Program participant.

In an engaging conversation moderated by Anita Manwani, President & Board Chair of TiE Silicon Valley and Vice Chair of the TiE Global Board of Trustees, Ashley shared her entrepreneurial journey, the mission behind her company, and the lessons learned along the way.

The Galena Innovations Mission

Ashley introduced us to Galena Innovations, a medtech startup dedicated to tackling one of the most urgent issues in maternal health: preventing preterm birth.

“We are developing the solution to preterm birth. Our devices are three years from market, and we are deeply focused on ensuring healthier outcomes for mothers and babies.”

Her company’s pioneering approach is pushing the boundaries of science and technology, with the potential to transform maternal care worldwide.

Ashley’s Entrepreneurial Journey

Ashley described her long entrepreneurial path as one fueled by determination and learning:

These programs not only gave her visibility but also shaped her as a founder, refining her pitching style, strengthening her confidence, and building meaningful peer relationships.

Her Superpower: “Toxic Tenacity”

One of the most powerful takeaways from Ashley’s conversation with Anita was her description of her personal superpower:

“Toxic Tenacity.”

This theme struck a chord with many in the audience, especially founders who understood the grit needed to survive the entrepreneurial journey. Ashley framed persistence not as blind endurance, but as relentless drive with purpose, climbing higher, breaking barriers, and never letting obstacles define her path.

Her honesty about embracing vulnerability as a source of strength was refreshing, particularly for the many women entrepreneurs in the audience.

Gratitude and Community

Ashley also emphasized how much TiE has meant to her journey:

“I am so grateful to TiE. They’ve allowed me opportunities to pitch, to grow as an entrepreneur, to get feedback, to improve my Q&A, and to build lasting relationships with other entrepreneurs — especially women founders.”

Her words reflect the heart of the TiE community: building not just companies, but people, networks, and confidence.

A Message to Entrepreneurs

When asked what message she would share with entrepreneurs, especially women, Ashley was clear:

“You are strong enough to do it. Go out there and solve the problems.”

Closing Thoughts

The Fireside Chat with Ashley Crafton and Anita Manwani was more than an evening of conversation, it was a masterclass in perseverance, passion, and the power of entrepreneurial community.

Ashley’s story continues to inspire, reminding us that resilience, paired with purpose, can create lasting impact.

We at TiE Silicon Valley are proud to stand behind innovators like Ashley and look forward to following Galena Innovations as it drives forward the future of maternal healthcare.
